Viva Energy to Roll Out 30 New EV Charging Stations

Viva Energy has struck a deal to establish 30 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its Shell-branded locations in New South Wales. This initiative, co-financed by the NSW Government, is set to unfold progressively over the coming years.

The project aims to enhance connectivity between NSW’s urban and regional areas and alleviate range anxiety among drivers. In a recent statement, Viva Energy described the planned network as a sophisticated charging solution. This network is designed to offer rapid charging and an enhanced customer experience as part of a significant upgrade of the retail network in line with the On The Run offer.

The initiative includes installing solar panels and batteries at each site and providing at least four ultra-fast charging points to reduce waiting times and increase charger availability. These solar panels will be complemented by renewable energy from the grid, ensuring emission-free power across various locations in NSW, including highways and urban and regional sites.

Lachlan Pfeiffer, Viva Energy’s Chief Business Development and Sustainability Officer, remarked that the EV charger expansion is a strategic move following the acquisition of Coles Express and On The Run. He emphasised that this project aligns with Viva Energy’s commitment to Australia’s energy transition.

Pfeiffer highlighted that the project aims to offer EV customers a top-tier charging experience with fast, seamless service and great customer experience at strategically chosen locations. He added that the expansion of EV charging capabilities is crucial for Viva Energy to provide diverse, sustainable energy options during Australia’s energy transition.

The NSW Government is supporting the project with a $14.7 million contribution through its EV fast-charging grants program, which is contingent on Viva Energy’s progress in developing the network.

Viva Energy emphasised its pivotal role in Australia’s shift to sustainable energy. Besides the EV charging network, the company is constructing a New Energies Service Station in Geelong, offering hydrogen refuelling and EV charging for trucks. Additionally, Viva Energy provides bio and renewable fuels and a Carbon Neutral Products Program for commercial and Shell Card clients to offset fuel-related emissions.
