1 in 3 Australians Plan to Buy EVs in the next 5 years, Evie Networks Study Shows

A recent study reveals that one in three Australians intend to purchase an electric vehicle (EV) within the next five years. Additionally, nearly half of the country’s motorists are pondering making the switch to EVs.

This data stems from the 2024 Future Forecast Report by Evie Networks, Australia’s largest provider of fast EV charging.

Chris Mills, CEO of Evie Networks, emphasises that electric vehicles are swiftly transitioning from futuristic concepts to practical choices for Australian drivers. The report highlights a growing preference for sustainable transport.

The research delves into changing driving habits in Australia and the rapid embrace of EVs. Key motivations for considering an EV include cost savings (70% of respondents), environmental advantages (69%), energy efficiency (56%), and quieter transportation (41%).

Mills points out the increasing acknowledgment of EVs’ financial and environmental benefits, marking a pivotal moment in the car industry’s evolution.

However, challenges remain, such as high costs (55% of respondents), concerns about driving range (47%), and perceived inadequate charging infrastructure (46%).

The survey notes that 76% of Australians call for more EV charging stations nationwide. Western Australians are most concerned about this issue, followed by those in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales (NSW).

NSW drivers lead in EV adoption consideration, with 51% contemplating an EV switch, followed by 47% in Victoria. On the other hand, South Australians show the least interest, primarily due to worries about EV costs and range.
