Man Charged in Coolac Service Station Arson Case

Detectives from the Arson Unit have apprehended a male suspect as a result of their probe into a fire that razed a service station near Gundagai in September.

On the evening of Tuesday, September 5, 2023, emergency crews rushed to a service station on Coolac Road in Coolac, near the Hume Highway in the southern part of the state, following reports of a fire.

The team from Fire & Rescue NSW successfully put out the fire, which significantly damaged the premises, though no injuries were reported.

Riverina Police District officers initially secured the scene and began investigations, which were later taken over by the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit under Strike Force Dosed.

The ongoing investigation by Strike Force detectives led to the arrest of a 42-year-old man at around 9:40 am on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Narellan Police Station.

He faces charges of property destruction or damage by fire.

Denied bail, the accused appeared in Picton Local Court on the same day, December 6, 2023, where bail was again denied. He is scheduled for a court appearance at Cootamundra Local Court on Monday, December 18, 2023.
