After a night-long battle involving over 60 firefighters, a massive fire that consumed a petrol station, fuel tanker, and multiple cars in Campbelltown is finally being addressed. Now, four months later, the process of rebuilding has commenced.
The owners of the devastated petrol station, which was engulfed in flames during an explosion that rattled the nearby streets, are now preparing to reconstruct their business after months of destruction.
On February 24, around 10 pm, a tanker, petrol station, and numerous cars became consumed by fire on Lindesay St, causing an explosion that shook homes and even stripped the cladding off a neighbouring house. The severity of the situation prompted the dispatch of more than 60 firefighters and 16 fire trucks. Fortunately, apart from one firefighter sustaining minor injuries during the arduous five-hour battle, no other casualties were reported.
The firefighters managed to contain the fire by 1:30 am and fully extinguished it by 3:15 am. However, the aftermath revealed a pile of debris, leaving the owners with the daunting task of rebuilding their livelihood.
Expressing their gratitude, the owners took to social media in the days following the incident, thanking everyone for the overwhelming love and support received since the devastating fire. They expressed their relief that everyone remained safe and unharmed.
In April, the owners shared an update on social media, announcing the commencement of demolition work at the old site. Now, they have submitted a development application to the Campbelltown Council for the rebuilding process.
According to the proposed plans, the new structure will include a refuelling station equipped with four separate dispensers housing eight refuelling bays, a sales building, new underground fuel tanks, a grease arrestor, a service yard, and parking facilities.
The documents submitted to the council describe the proposed development as a replacement service station facility to fill the void left by the fire-ravaged previous establishment. The site’s historical use as a service station negates the need for further contamination investigations.
Ultimately, the rebuilt petrol station aims to provide essential services to the local community, catering to the day-to-day needs of residents, workers, and visitors.
