Ampol has revealed plans to initiate a trial on renewable diesel, naming Hanson as its inaugural customer participant.
This trial aims to offer Ampol insights into the potential demand and viability of renewable diesel in the Australian market. Hanson will receive a mixture from Ampol composed of 20% renewable diesel and 80% ultra-low sulphur diesel, enhanced with Ampol Amplify additives.
This move into renewable diesel experimentation comes on the heels of Ampol’s collaboration with ENEOS, Japan’s premier oil firm, to probe the production of renewable fuels at the Lytton refinery.
Ampol’s Executive General Manager for International and New Business, Brent Merrick, emphasised that this trial reaffirms Ampol’s reputation as a top-tier fuel supplier of global standards.
Merrick remarked, “Ampol takes pride in its pivotal role in backing our clientele. Recognising the evolving transport energy preferences of our clients, collaboration with industry frontrunners like Hanson is essential for our growth.”
“Our venture into renewable diesel underscores our commitment to nurturing a renewable fuels sector in Australia. Renewable diesel is especially intriguing as it negates the need for extensive fleet or infrastructure modifications.”
“Renewable diesel is pivotal in the energy transition, and we extend our gratitude to Hanson for partnering in this venture.”
Hanson, renowned for its prowess in building and construction materials, boasts a widespread production and delivery system across Australia.

The trial will commence shortly, spanning roughly two months, followed by a review before potentially expanding to Ampol’s larger client network.
