Two individuals have been arrested by police in Adelaide in connection with a series of petrol thefts from service stations in recent months.
The suspects, a man aged 33 and a woman aged 28, allegedly used a modified white Toyota Hiace van to steal thousands of dollars worth of fuel. The van had been specially adapted to hold a 1,000-litre fuel tank, which was fitted with a bowser, hose, and pump to distribute the stolen fuel. Police raided a property in Cheltenham on Saturday, where they found the van containing 420 litres of fuel, as well as jerry cans.
The suspects are accused of using fraudulently obtained credit card details to pay for the fuel via an app. Police are investigating 90 reports of stolen fuel across the metropolitan area and have described the thefts as “systematic”. In addition to the fuel theft charges, the suspects have also been charged with possessing a firearm without a license and breach of bail.
The couple has appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court, and police say their investigations are ongoing.
