Several Puma service stations in the Northern Territory will soon be closing, with five outlets in Howard Springs, Humpty Doo, Palmerston, Nightcliff, and Wishart Road closing at 6 pm on Thursday to make way for OTR (formerly On The Run), who will take over their operation starting April 1. In addition, eight other Puma outlets will be closed after midnight as their floor layouts will be upgraded. Most of these outlets will likely be closed on Friday as the official transfer of ownership takes place at midnight, with reopening scheduled for Saturday morning.
Puma, which is owned by US energy giant Chevron, and OTR, which has been seeking to enter the Northern Territory market, began negotiations late last year, with the deal becoming public in January. An OTR representative expressed excitement about entering the northern Australian market and becoming part of the local community.
OTR is known for being a business builder, working collaboratively with suppliers, business partners, and the community to deliver innovative and fresh approaches to convenience retail. The representative also mentioned that OTR will announce new store offerings for the Northern Territory over the coming months, which will include a range of OTR-branded products.
Founded in 1984, OTR now has over 180 petrol stations and convenience outlets across South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia. OTR has partnerships with several leading brands, including Guzman Y Gomez, Krispy Kreme, HappyDogWash, and Subway.
At least for the moment, the new operator will still sell Chevron fuel at all of its outlets in the Northern Territory. OTR has not yet indicated when or if it plans to introduce its brand into the Territory. Currently, Puma has 15 branded stations in the Territory.
