Appeal for help as cops target petrol thieves

Police are appealing for public help tracking down petrol thieves after another four local service stations fell victim to fuel drive-offs.

Apco outlets at Newcomb and Grovedale, and the BP service centres on either side of the Princes Freeway at Little River, were all targeted between January 6 and January 20.

The vehicles involved were a white Holden station wagon, a blue Holden sedan and a red Holden sedan, all fitted with stolen registration plates.

  • January 6 – Apco Newcomb. Blue Holden sedan, 1AY-4JH (stolen), with poor peeling paintwork and a blue plastic bag on the rear driver side window
  • January 16 – BP Little River Geelong-bound. Red Holden sedan, registration 1AC-6WK (stolen)
  • January 19 – Apco Grovedale. Blue Holden Commodore sedan, Queensland registration 940SEN (cancelled)
  • January 20 – BP Little River Melbourne-bound. White Holden station wagon, registration ZHK-915 (stolen)

The red vehicle used in one of the Princes Freeway thefts was also involved in an evade police, attempted burglary and criminal damage incident, while the white station wagon was involved in another petrol theft at Grovedale.

Police have released CCTV images from the four drive-offs and are asking for public assistance in identifying the thieves.
