‘Unprovoked attack’ at Alice Springs servo

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 21-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted two women in an unprovoked attack at an Alice Springs service station.

A man has allegedly assaulted two women during an unprovoked attack at an Alice Springs service station.

The 21-year-old allegedly followed a woman, 27, to her vehicle at the Railway Terrace servo and assaulted her early on Wednesday, Northern Territory police say.

He allegedly assaulted the second woman, also 27, when she attempted to intervene in the incident before he fled the scene.

“Both women were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment following what can only be described as a violent unprovoked assault,” Detective Constable Vanessa Heffernan said.

“It is unbelievable the women did not suffer more significant injuries.”

Officers later arrested the man after using CCTV to track him down.

He was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House and is expected to be charged later on Wednesday.
