Uber and BP Join Forces for Discounted EV Charging

Uber has partnered with BP in Australia to provide discounted electric vehicle charging to its drivers, as the company launches a dedicated service for low-emissions rides.

The aim is to encourage reluctant drivers to switch to electric cars and contribute to Uber’s goal of eliminating carbon-polluting vehicles from its platform by 2040.

The “Uber Green” feature, which allows customers to request a hybrid or fully electric car for the same price as an UberX journey, has been introduced in Australia, following its successful launch in Europe four years ago.

Through the partnership with BP, Uber drivers using electric vehicles will receive a discount on charging at BP Pulse service stations, helping them save between 5¢ and 8¢ per kilowatt-hour.

This initiative is part of Uber’s efforts to address the significant greenhouse gas emissions produced by light vehicles in Australia, which account for over 10% of the country’s total emissions.

Ride-hailing companies believe that by promoting electric vehicle adoption, they can play a crucial role in reducing emissions and contributing to decarbonization efforts.
