It wasn’t a successful night for one Lake Macquarie teen, who only managed to pocket $50 from a cafe tip jar and three packets of cigarettes in a night of botched robberies, before being picked up by police.
Tye Anthony Brown, 18, rolled up come cardboard and hid it under his shirt before entering four Lake Macquarie stores within a few hundred metres of each other on the night of February 3.
Tye Brown has pleaded guilty to trying to rob three fast food outlets and a service station at Lake Macquarie on February 3. The first, Pizza Inn at Edgeworth on Main Rd, where he politely asked a staff member “Can you please open the cash register?” according to police facts.
When that didn’t work he then tried Subway at the Edgeworth Town Square 20 minutes later, where he came in shirtless with the garment wrapped around his hand.
“Oi, I need money, give me the money now,” he repeatedly said.
Police facts said when the staff member went out the back to hide he tried to steal the Westpac Careflight Charity Donations, but that became a major fail as it was bolted to the counter.
Brown was increasingly frustrated when he hit his next victim, Henny Penny.
He waited for two patrons to leave before he approached staff and said, “give me the f**king money”, punching the counter with his shirt wrapped hand.
But again no luck as he was forced out by staff members empty handed.

Police said the rampage ended only when Brown said to a Caltex service station attendant: “Would you rather give me cigarettes or get shot tonight’’.
At Toronto Local Court on Tuesday, Brown made a brief appearance and pleaded guilty to larceny, enter building with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of demand property with menaces with intent to steal and robbery.
Four other related charged were withdrawn.
His matter has been adjourned until September 18.
