Two major developments get Mackay council green light

Developers behind two projects have got the green light to begin construction in Mackay.

Mackay Regional Council approved Home Consortium’s application for a new Mobil to be built at the HomeCo centre on Holts Road off Mackay Bucasia Road in Richmond.

The service station will include five undercover double-sided bowsers, extra parking, a 200sq m retail shopfloor and a 1.5m wide footpath along the southern side.

The outlet will be to the right of existing shops including Spotlight and Fantastic Furniture.

The approval is the latest in the growing homemaker centre precinct which includes Bunnings North Mackay on the adjacent lot.

The council has also approved plans to turn an empty lot on Carlyle Street into a two-level building with a childcare centre on the first floor and office space on the second.

The centre will operate from 6am to 6pm and include 763sq m of outdoor space, six indoor rooms, a reception, administration area, staff facilities and a parenting hub, catering for a maximum of 97 children.

NSW company Harbour Street Developments, in its application, said the centre would tap into the “genuine need” for additional childcare places in Mackay.

The centre will also include 16 car park spaces and a 2m high fence for child safety and protection.
