Truckies Call for BP to Tackle Long-Term Parking Issues at Key Sites

BP recently announced that it will initially target parking violations at its Archerfield, Eastern Creek, and Wingfield locations, sparking feedback from truck drivers who have highlighted other problematic service stations.

Wayne Rogerson, an interstate driver, pointed out that the BP site in Epping, Victoria, is “notorious” for trucks and trailers overstaying their welcome. “We drivers have to sign a book if we’re parking longer than the standard time,” he said. “But some treat it like their personal depot—some even bring in mechanics for servicing right there on site!”

Rogerson shared that a Volvo prime mover and an old bus have been sitting at Epping for months, untouched. “Yesterday, I saw three single trailers and six unhitched B-double sets parked there,” he noted. “Some drivers even swap their trucks for cars during the day, just to reserve a spot for later.”

He also called out BP’s Tullamarine and Dandenong sites for similar issues. “At Tullamarine BP, you’ve got people parking their trucks every afternoon and leaving in their cars. During Christmas last year, I was told not to park my prime mover while I rested, or I’d get fined—meanwhile, four rigid tippers were taking up spaces for weeks.”

Last year, BP Truganina also announced a crackdown on long-term parking. However, according to Shannon Suttle, a truck driver who frequently travels between the NSW Central Coast, Sydney, and Truganina, the situation hasn’t improved. “Finding a spot in the early morning is nearly impossible between the Ampol and BP at Truganina,” Suttle shared. “Local drivers hold spots for their friends, leading to arguments. Sometimes, you end up exceeding your hours just trying to find a place to park.”

Despite signage about parking limits and towing, Suttle says enforcement is lacking. “You can report it to management or BP Complaints, but all you get is, ‘We’ll look into it.’”

Adam Black, another driver, expressed his frustration with BP Beresfield. “Parking here is a nightmare,” he said. “BP is quick to take your $2000 in fuel, but good luck finding a spot to shower or rest!”

These stories reflect a widespread concern among drivers about the need for BP to address long-term parking issues across more of its sites, ensuring fair access for those who rely on them during their journeys.
