Supercars: WAU co-naming rights sponsor Mega Limited placed into receivership

Mega Limited, the primary sponsor of Supercars squad Walkinshaw Andretti United, has been placed into receivership.

The fuel company has been listed as in receivership with McGrathNicol since August 29.

Mega Fuels currently shares co-naming rights status with WAU’s long-time sponsor Mobil 1, with the team entered under the Mobil 1 Mega Racing banner.

After Holden’s primary factory backing moved across to Triple Eight from 2017, WAU was previously backed by Boost Mobile until 2018, before it shifted to Garry Rogers Motorsport for the 2019 season.

Mega has been a major contributor to Australian motorsport in recent years, and was previously involved in Supercars as the major backer for Jason Bright’s Tickford entry in 2017.

The company also supported Garry Jacobson’s MW Motorsport Super2 campaign in 2018.

Last week, it was confirmed that 2010 series champion James Courtney will leave WAU at the end of the 2019 season.

Courtney joined the Holden squad in 2011, and is currently 12th in the standings ahead of teammate Scott Pye, who is 16th.

It’s also believed WAU has agreed to terms with Tickford star Chaz Mostert from 2020.

It’s unknown who will pilot the team’s second car, with Pye also off contract at the end of the current season.
