Shocking CCTV footage has captured the moment a service station on the Sunshine Coast was violently ram-raided in the early hours of the morning.
Just before 2am, a stolen white Hyundai IX35 ploughed through the front doors of a service station on Arthur Street, Caloundra. Moments later, two hooded men rushed inside, one of them barefoot, navigating shattered glass as they made a direct dash for the Free Choice Tobacconist at Rainbow Fuels.
Within seconds, they emerged clutching armfuls of cigarettes and other stolen goods. According to staff, the thieves managed to escape with nearly an entire consignment of tobacco products delivered the previous Friday.
Local petrol station worker Kylie Seubert was appalled by the destruction, having spotted the damage while on the school run.
“It’s absolutely disgusting,” she said. “The new owners have only just taken over, and everything was looking fantastic. Then these people come in and wreck it all without a second thought.”
While the securely locked cabinets behind the counter remained untouched, the bulk of the newly arrived tobacco stock—yet to be put away—was stolen.
Police have confirmed that the Hyundai used in the raid had been reported stolen from a property in Regents Park on 22nd March.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information or CCTV footage from the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
