Robert Riordan has announced his retirement from Riordan Fuels, effective 28 February.
After nearly 60 years as Owner and Managing Director, Riordan is stepping down in good health, ensuring a smooth leadership transition. His career began in 1965 with the purchase of the Shell Distributorship for Southwestern Victoria and a service station in Colac. Over the years, he expanded significantly before moving to Geelong in 1990 to partner in the Geelong Shell Distributorship.
Riordan Fuels has since become one of Victoria’s leading independent fuel distributors, with an extensive network across Victoria and Southern NSW. Under Riordan’s leadership, the company has thrived while maintaining strong community ties.
A dedicated advocate for rural issues, Riordan has been actively involved in numerous community organisations. His contributions were recognised in 2022 with the Order of Australia Medal for his service to the fuel industry, Water Authority Boards, Marcus Oldham College, and regional communities.
In a farewell message, Riordan thanked customers for their support and acknowledged the dedication of his team, expressing confidence in the company’s future under new leadership.
Following his retirement, General Manager Brent Squires will lead Riordan Fuels, reporting to Chief Commercial Officer Mark Lewis, who will report to Jim Riordan, Managing Director of Riordan Group.
