Police are probing a fire that devastated a Mobil petrol station near the Hume Highway in southern NSW last night.
The fire erupted at the Coolac establishment, roughly 20 km north of Gundagai, shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.
About fifty firefighters from the Riverina region arrived at the location and managed to prevent the flames from reaching the fuel pumps.
There have been no injuries reported.
Stewart Alexander, an officer from Fire and Rescue NSW, stated that it required around four hours for the teams to extinguish the fire. He mentioned, “There were indications of gas cylinders being alight and challenges with the water supply.”
According to Alexander, a considerable number of resources were deployed, including approximately 23 trucks from both urban and countryside fire stations.
A representative from the Rural Fire Service indicated that the structure sustained major damage and added that some teams remained at the site on Wednesday for surveillance.
The NSW Police have marked the area as a crime scene and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
