New servo in the works for high-growth area

Construction is underway on a new service station in one of Ipswich’s fastest-growing rural areas.

Integrated Property Projects is developing Walloon’s first service station on a previously vacant block on Queen St, following Ipswich City Council approval.

The Mobil-branded service station is expected to open for business in November and will be able to operate 24-hours a day.

It will have four bowsers with eight refuelling spaces and a small convenience store.

Integrated Property Projects Director, Grant Forde, said the Walloon location was the ideal location for the development.

“It’s at the crossroads between two highways and just down the road from the Waterlea housing estate so it’s an area where we’re seeing a lot of growth,” Mr Forde said.

“I’ve had my eye on this area for quite a while now and I think there’s a lot of potential for future population growth.”

The development builds on Mr Forde’s family connections to the area – his grandfather Eddie Kooymans owned the Walloon Hotel in the 1970s.

“He originally had pubs out west, and then he owned the Walloon Hotel for a fair while before he retired so there’s a bit of a link there,” Mr Forde said.

A traffic report conducted by Q Traffic found the development at 15 Queen Street would have a “negligible impact on the safety or efficiency” of the surrounding road network.

It also found that approximately 2,180 vehicles travelled past the site on Queen St each day.
