Motorists Flock to 99 Cent Fuel Deal

On a bustling Tuesday in Sydney’s southwest, a remarkable scene unfolded at the Metro Petroleum Punchbowl, where lines of cars stretched far and wide, all eager to take advantage of the decade’s lowest petrol prices. This rare opportunity offered motorists fuel at just 99 cents per litre—a price not seen in recent memory. This special rate is available on the first Tuesday of each month, between 3 pm and 5 pm, at select Metro Petroleum stations.

This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Dreams Come True Club (DCT) and select petrol stations, aims to provide some relief from the escalating cost of living. Normally, outside of these promotional hours, the price of unleaded petrol at the station is 192.7 cents per litre. Thus, during the sale, drivers can save nearly a dollar for every litre.

During the event, enthusiasm was palpable. One driver, with a 600-litre fuel tank, was determined to fill it to the brim. Despite the long waits, which baffled some unaware of the promotion, the mood was upbeat. Those in the know had come prepared with snacks, fresh music downloads, and extra jerrycans to maximise their savings.

For many, the wait was a small price to pay for such significant savings. “I’m happy to wait,” one motorist declared, her fuel gauge urgently signalling empty. “If I have to push the car, I have to push the car,” she added, determined.

The DCT Club, which offers memberships across Australia, excluding SA and the ACT, partners with Metro Petroleum, which operates over 500 stations nationwide. This means that numerous Australians can benefit from this monthly deal, although the specific locations for the next sale remain a closely guarded secret.

George Dib, the owner of Metro Petroleum, expressed strong support for the initiative. “Times are tough, there is no denying that. Everywhere you look, it seems like consumers can’t get a break,” he observed. “In this environment, we are absolutely on board with this initiative by DCT Club to alleviate some of the cost stress in the community.” This gesture not only supports customers but also fosters a sense of community and shared relief during challenging economic times.
