Machete used during armed robbery at Victorian service station

Police are searching for a man who wielded a machete as he climbed over the counter during an armed robbery inĀ Victoria‘s west.
The man, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, was caught on CCTV as he unsuccessfully tried to steal the entire till from the Ballarat service station on Learmonth Road in Mitchell Hill, about 8.20pm on November 6.
The man began by asking the employee for two packets of cigarettes, according to police, before asking to “look more closely” at them.

The employee allegedly refused the request because the cigarettes had not been paid for, before the man pulled out a machete.

Footage shows him scrambling to get over the counter with the machete in his right hand, before he puts several packets of cigarettes into his jacket.

He can then be seen using the computer to release the till, which he unsuccessfully tries to take before fleeing the store.

Police said he got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes’.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police have released the CCTV footage to try to track down the man.
