Fuel Tanker Driver Fined $20,000 for Diesel Spill Polluting Creek

In a recent incident, a fuel tanker driver’s error at work resulted in over 11,000 litres of diesel fuel spilling into Mittagong Creek, causing pollution. As a consequence, the driver has been fined close to $20,000.

Expert analysis revealed that the diesel spill had a significant negative effect on Mittagong Creek until late June 2022. Fortunately, heavy rainfall in early July helped dilute the pollution. Had this rainfall not occurred, the impact would have lasted much longer. The driver admitted guilt in the Land and Environment Court on charges related to polluting water and land.
