Several fuel companies have expressed interest to the government to assist in the hunt for onshore fuel reserves as the government looks to take advantage of low global oil prices.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed Caltex, Exxon, BP and Viva have all put their hands up to assist.
“Energy Minister Angus Taylor has made it clear he wants to take advantage of low global oil prices to build up our fuel stockpile with an initial $100 million committed to store fuel in the US and the hunt on for a site in Australia fuel can be stored,” Mr Clennell said.
“Several fuel companies have expressed an interest to government including Caltex to use its Kurnell site in southern Sydney and Exxon, BP and Viva, I understand.”
