Emergency services were called to an explosive scene at Glenfield last night, as a truck burst into blames at the Crossroads service station.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to the alight semi-trailer at Uncle Leo’s Truck Stop just after 9.30pm last night.
The truck, containing a mixed load, was well alight on arrival, and a number of aerosol cans exploded during the call-out.
Crews from Horningsea Park, St Andrews, Macquarie Fields, Busby and Huntingwood stations worked to extinguish the fire and the incident was cleared approximately 40 minutes after the initial Triple Zero call.
The firefighters managed to contain the blaze with no damage to the service station, however the trailer of the truck was completely destroyed.
The St Andrews crew said on Facebook that the fears for the fire were great.
“There were concerns that the service station may have been on fire,” they posted.
“Lots of aerosol cans were exploding and it was quite a dangerous situation.
“If you find yourself driving near an incident like this, remember to please keep your distance, call 000 and don’t block the roads so the arriving Fire and Rescue Crews can get to the fire.”
St Andrews’ Bulk Tanker was used in the blaze to “add a heavy weight of attack with water monitors and Compressed Air Foam technology”, the posted.
“It was used to protect the service station and extinguish the fire.”
