AN elderly man attempted to rob a Darwin service station overnight by passing a “bank robbery style” note over the counter to the attendant, according to NT police.
The attempt robbery was one of two — apprently unrelated — incidents overnight where service station attendants felt threatened by offenders.
According to police, at around 5.45pm Sunday evening the elderly man entered the Puma Service Station on Bagot Road, Ludmilla and passed a threatening note demanding money, and other items, to the staff member behind the counter.
The staff member tried to press the duress button and, after making further threats, the elderly man gave up on his robbery attempt, and left the servo stealing some groceries instead as he took off.
The offender is described as being around 65 years old, caucasian and with a medium build.
Later overnight, a man entered the Puma service station in Palmerston at around 2.20am and jumped over the counter.
Police said the staff member felt threatened with the man stealing seven mobile phones before leaving.
The man is described as being Indigenous with a large build, around 25 years old and wearing a white shirt and denim jeans.
Anyone who may have any information on either of the two robberies is urged to call police on 131 444.
