In a crowded Sydney fuel market where price wars and cutting corners are common, Nick Talaveski is doing things differently. As the Managing Director of Pump Group, Nick isn’t just running servos, he’s building premium retail experiences that attract loyal, high-value customers.
With three BP sites across Western Sydney, Yagoona, Hoxton Park, and Moorebank and more on the way, Nick is deliberate about every choice he makes. From property development to pump selection, nothing is left to chance.
And when it came time to upgrade his dispensers, his choice was clear: Wayne® dispensers from Dover Fueling SolutionsⓇ (DFS).
Built for Flow, Built to Last
“I’d filled up at a few BP sites that had Wayne dispensers installed and was genuinely impressed,” says Nick. “The flow rate is just so much better. With other dispensers, you wait a few seconds before anything happens. But with these, it’s instant. It sounds simple, but that makes a big difference when your customers are in a rush.”
Nick also praised how quiet and smooth the dispensers run.

“As an operator, it’s the little things that stand out,” he says. “When customers are waving at your console staff because they think the pump’s broken, but it’s just slow, you know you’ve got a problem. That frustration disappears with Wayne dispensers.”
A Better Fit for a Better Brand
Pump Group positions itself in the premium retail tier. With barista coffee, clean amenities, and sharp presentation, the sites aren’t trying to win the race to the bottom in terms of fuel pricing strategy.
“Our approach aligns with the BP model,” Nick explains. “We’re not trying to compete on price. We’re focused on quality, customer service and long-term loyalty. That means you’ve got to have the right equipment in place to deliver that level of experience.”
The Wayne dispensers not only perform well but also look the part. Sleek, modern, and clean, they help convey trust and quality from the moment a customer pulls up.
A True Partnership with DFS
One of the standout moments in Nick’s journey with DFS came during a BP conference in Port Douglas.
“I was literally about to place an order with the builder that week,” Nick recalls. “Paula [from DFS] took the time to sit down with me at the conference and go through the site design. We talked about where to place the AdBlue, how to optimise diesel flow, everything. They didn’t just sell me pumps, they helped engineer the site.”
That level of advice and involvement made a lasting impression.
“It’s rare these days. A lot of suppliers are ‘sell and disappear’. But DFS have stuck around. Paula was even there on opening day to check that everything ran smoothly. That means a lot.”
Keeping It Simple
Despite the advanced technology behind DFS’s equipment, Nick says the dispensers are remarkably user-friendly for both operators and technicians.
“Our techs love working on them,” he says. “They’re just well designed. And from a maintenance standpoint, we’ve had fewer issues. They’re robust and work well.”
Looking Ahead
While Pump Group hasn’t yet adopted DFS’ ATG systems, Nick says it’s only a matter of time. A legacy relationship led him to install other systems at his existing sites, but he admits, “That’s something we’ll change moving forward. I’ve seen how compatible everything is, and I’ll be working directly with Paula next time.”
With new sites already planned for growth areas in Western Sydney, Pump Group is firmly focused on growth, especially in emerging corridors where quality retail is in demand.
“You get the right customers out there,” says Nick. “Young families, people looking for quality coffee, clean facilities, a better experience. That’s who we want to serve.”
Final Word
For Nick, success isn’t just about numbers. It’s about the experience for both customers and operators. And that’s where the partnership with DFS has delivered.
“They’ve got a great product, no doubt. But the service, the advice, the support, that’s what really makes the difference. Once we found a setup that worked, I said to myself, Why reinvent the wheel?”
With more premium service stations on the horizon, Nick’s sticking with what works and Wayne dispensers are part of that winning formula.
