The coronavirus pandemic has delivered a silver lining for motorists, who are now enjoying the cheapest fuel prices in 15 years.
A litre of unleaded fuel costs as little 88.9 cents per litre today, which is the lowest price since January 28, 2005.
The new cheap prices mean motorists can score a full tank of fuel for less than $50, based on an average-sized tank of 55 litres.
Last week, the average price of fuel in Perth dropped to just 114.5 c/litre, which is the cheapest since October 2016.
But, the State’s petrol price watchdog FuelWatch has warned the prices won’t last long, with fuel tipped to increase by an average of more than 15 c/litre — or more than $8 a tank — tomorrow.
FuelWatch says the cheapest fuel in Perth’s eastern suburbs is at NightOwl Shell in Bellevue (89.9 c/litre), while the cheapest fuel in the southern suburbs is at BP Redcliffe in Perth’s south (88.9 c/litre).
In Perth’s northern suburbs, 24 service stations are selling fuel at the cheapest price of 94.9 c/litre.
Tomorrow, prices will increase in line with the city’s fuel price cycle, with Caltex hiking prices by up to 33 cents a litre.
Fuel prices have fallen rapidly due to the drop in international prices and reduced demand due to the COVID-19 crisis.
FuelWatch says it is urging drivers to fill up today to save money.
