CCTV images released over Haymarket convenience store attempted robbery

Police are appealing for information as investigations continue into the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store in Sydney’s CBD earlier this year.

A 21-year-old female employee was working behind the counter of a convenience store on Quay Street, Haymarket, shortly after 10.10am on Monday 15 July 2019, when a man entered the rear of the store asking for assistance.

As she was walking back to the counter, the man – believed to be armed with a knife – grabbed the woman from behind and a struggle ensued; he fled the store empty handed and was last seen running on Quay Street.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for injuries to her face, neck, back and hands, but did not require hospitalisation.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CCTV footage shows the man on Harris and Macarthur Streets at Ultimo, near the Powerhouse Museum.

Police want to speak to a man depicted in the image, who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man depicted is described as being of Asian appearance, of medium build, about 170cm tall, and with short black hair.

He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, grey tracksuit pants with white stripes down the leg, and a white medical face mask.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
