BP Australia will undertake a feasibility study into the production of green hydrogen at its Kwinana site in Western Australia.
In partnership with Macquarie Capital and backed by $300,000 under the Renewable Hydrogen Fund from the McGowan Government, BP is looking to progress the Kwinana Clean Fuels hub proposal, which would see BP’s existing Kwinana refinery facility repurposed for green hydrogen and clean fuel production.
BP Australia President for low carbon solutions Frédéric Baudry said, guided by the government’s Low Emission Technology Investment Roadmap, the company is advancing Kwinana’s contribution to the decarbonisation of Australia’s industrial sector.
The Kwinana Industrial Area is the largest industrial cluster in WA, home to many high-emission power plants and refineries.
The hydrogen feasibility study will help progress the decarbonisation of industrial processes by integrating green energy alternatives for these existing industrial uses.
“BP has a strong track record as an energy provider to the industrial area and has readily accessible land, existing infrastructure including storage and distribution facilities, and a team with extensive operational capabilities and experienc,” Mr Baudry said.
