Armidale robbery: Armed man robs BP Service Station on corner of Marsh and Dumaresq Streets, Armidale

A MAN is on the run after an armed hold-up at an Armidale service station on Tuesday afternoon.

The offender, who was armed with a knife, entered the BP shop on Marsh Street, on the corner of Dumaresq Street, about 2pm, and rushed at the employee working behind the counter.

Police said anti-counter jumping security wiring stopped the man from injuring the employee, who retreated to a secure area.

The thief stole several packets of lollies from the shop as well as drinks from the fridge and fled the store.

The employee sounded the alarm with police, who arrived shortly after and set-up a crime scene.

The offender is described as being Aboriginal in appearance, about 180cm tall with a slim to medium build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing with a black and white balaclava covering the lower half of his face.

Anyone with information or who saw the man acting suspiciously near the BP about 2pm is urged to contact Armidale detectives on 6771 0699.
