Ampol, Hyundai and Toyota Collaborate on Hydrogen Refueling Infrastructure

Ampol, Hyundai Australia, Pacific Energy, and Toyota Australia have come together in a collaborative effort to advance the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly work on this initiative, leveraging the unique expertise of each company.

This partnership signifies a united front of four companies with a shared enthusiasm for Australia’s emerging hydrogen economy. It underscores their dedication to cooperating to pursue a more sustainable future. Hyundai and Toyota are currently operating fleets of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in Australia. Ampol and Pacific Energy are actively investing in energy solutions to support the energy transition.

The primary objective of this MOU is to pool the knowledge and capabilities of these partners to facilitate the establishment of hydrogen refuelling stations for FCEVs in Canberra.

Matthew Halliday, Ampol’s Managing Director and CEO, emphasised the significance of creating the necessary hydrogen infrastructure for successfully adopting hydrogen as a transportation fuel, highlighting its potential for decarbonisation.

Ted Lee, Hyundai Australia’s CEO, reflected on Hyundai’s involvement in the ACT Government’s hydrogen station project in 2021 and expressed excitement about collaborating with experienced partner companies to contribute to a cleaner and greener transport future.

Jamie Cullen, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Energy, expressed the company’s commitment to decarbonising the transportation sector and advancing Australia’s hydrogen ecosystem in collaboration with like-minded organisations.

Matthew Callachor, President and CEO of Toyota Australia, highlighted Toyota’s ongoing efforts to expand its hydrogen capabilities in Australia, including local trials of the Mirai FCEV sedan and the establishment of a hydrogen production and refuelling facility in Victoria. He emphasised that this joint collaboration opens up further opportunities to explore and enhance this crucial technology.
