An illegal hoon gathering in St Kilda has ended in rocks being thrown at police and OC spray being deployed to subdue a huge crowd.
Victoria Police were called to Marine Parade about 10.50pm on Thursday after reports of an illegal gathering.
As seen in the video above, footage posted to social media shows dozens of cars packing into a service station and later performing burnouts.
“It’s going off!” one person wrote alongside footage of the crowd.
The activity blocked Marine Parade to northbound traffic.
While police officers were making assessments, they were advanced on by the crowd and rocks were thrown.
A police car was damaged by the mob.
Officers deployed OC spray to disperse the crowd and a number of other units attended including the Police Air Wing.
Police said a number of offences were committed including breaches of the Chief Health Officer’s directions.
