A man who allegedly threatened to “blow up” a north shore petrol station with a cigarette lighter has faced a Sydney court.
A central coast man has been charged by police after allegedly threatening to “blow up” a petrol station with a cigarette lighter on Sydney’s north shore.
Lee Arthur Roberts, 42, was arrested on Friday after entering the Caltex service station on Military Rd in Neutral Bay where he allegedly swore and yelled at motorists who were filling up their cars about 3.30pm.
Police said Roberts then entered the service station shop and allegedly began yelling and screaming at customers before being told to leave the store by a member of the public.
Moments later the Woy Woy man allegedly ran out of the store, picked up a petrol pump, held a cigarette lighter to the nozzle and made several alleged threats to cause an explosion with the effect of “blowing up” the site, police claim.
Roberts allegedly fled the scene on foot but was arrested a short time later by North Shore Police.
He was taken to Chatswood Police Station and charged with threaten to destroy or damage another persons property.
Roberts was denied bail after his arrest and appeared via audio visual link in Manly Local Court on Tuesday.
He did not apply for bail.
The 42-year-old is due to reappear in court for a further hearing on January 19 next year.
