A Townsville service station has been targeted in an armed robbery early this morning.
Police were called to the Caltex service station on Pilkington St, Garbutt about 3.40am.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brenden Stevenson said a man armed with a weapon “similar to a kitchen knife” threatened a female staff member at the service station.
“Demands were made for money which were complied with,” he said.
“She obviously would be physically shaken by this incident.”
Acting Senior Sgt Stevenson said the offender hid his face.
“Due to the amount of his face he had covered … there is very limited that we know of at this stage,” he said.
It is not yet known how much money was stolen.
He said the man fled the service station on foot towards Ingham Rd.
The dog squad was also called but police have not yet been able to track down the offender.
Acting Senior Sgt Stevenson said police would be checking nearby CCTV footage to identify the man.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444.
