Castletown Service Station is open again after a three-month renovation.
The locally owned servo was closed in February to renovate the shop, put up a new canopy, and install new fuel pumps — a project carried out largely by local contractors.
South East Petroleum — which owns Castletown Service Station — said there were a few finishing touches to complete, but it was happy to reopen the pumps to the public.
“There is some more painting that needs to be done on the outside of the building and some associated lighting to go on the canopy,” co-owner Grant Harris said.
“When that is completed it will look fantastic, but I am very pleased with where it is at the moment.”
Pencilled as a four-week project, the renovation timeline was extended because of additional construction requirements and a few last-minute changes to the blueprint.
Mr Harris said as a small business owner and Esperance local, he deemed it important to use local contractors wherever possible.
“We are a small local company ourselves, so we know how important it is to support those in town,” he said.
“Having locals on-site and being able to work with them when they’re just around the corner is fantastic.
“The only outside contractors we used were the pump installation company — they are specialised bowser installers who hold a licence for the role, which aren’t available in Esperance.
“Everything else — from earthworks to electricians, metal fabrication companies and IT — was done by local tradespeople.”
Aside from a few cosmetic finishes, the service station was fully operational as of yesterday.
