BP has updated its shower access policy at 16 Melbourne service stations after a Big Rigs report highlighted an issue faced by interstate truck driver Katie Watson.
Earlier this month, Watson, who holds an MC licence, visited the BP Scoresby service station on Victoria’s EastLink. She had parked her truck at a nearby depot and drove to the station in her personal car, presenting her truck licence to request shower access. However, her request was denied.
Following her complaint, AA Holdings Pty Ltd—the BP dealer group managing these sites—reviewed its policy and introduced a change across all locations.
Previously, shower facilities were only available to drivers accompanied by their trucks to prevent misuse by the public. However, AA Holdings acknowledged that truck drivers often take fatigue breaks or switch shifts without their vehicles, a situation they had not previously considered.
A spokesperson confirmed the policy has now been updated, allowing truck drivers to access showers by presenting a valid truck licence, even if they arrive in a personal vehicle.
AA Holdings also personally contacted Watson to apologise and thank her for raising the issue. Watson was pleased with the outcome, saying she appreciated the company’s response and the positive change for fellow drivers.
“This is a great win for truckies,” she said.
