The Central Coast has taken a significant step forward in bolstering its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, thanks to a statewide expansion led by the New South Wales (NSW) Government.
Under the second round of the EV Destination Charging grants programme, 17 new charging locations, offering a total of 30 charging ports, will soon be established across the region.
“This funding is a fantastic boost for our community and a game-changer for local tourism,” said David Harris, Minister for the Central Coast. “By enhancing the EV charging network, we’re not only making life easier for EV drivers but also driving economic growth, as more visitors translate to increased business activity for the Central Coast.”
The initiative is designed to accommodate the rising number of EVs making their way to regional tourist hotspots throughout NSW.
The $20 million EV Destination Charging grants programme will deliver over 1,300 EV charging ports at more than 500 locations, ensuring accessible and convenient charging solutions for both residents and visitors across the state.
These newly installed chargers will complement the 189 fast-charging stations funded under the NSW Government’s EV Strategy, which ensures there’s a fast-charging option every 100 kilometres along key regional routes in the state.
In the Central Coast, new charging sites will be located in areas such as Budgewoi, Kulnura, Pretty Beach, West Gosford, and Wyoming. These chargers are being placed strategically at motels, hotels, dining establishments, and other popular destinations frequented by locals and tourists alike.
Additionally, the third round of the grants programme is now open for applications, focusing on addressing EV charging gaps along established road trip routes in regional NSW.
This investment in EV infrastructure not only aligns with sustainability goals but also underscores a commitment to supporting regional growth and innovation, ensuring the Central Coast remains a sought-after destination for the future.
