A potentially catastrophic incident was narrowly avoided at a fuel station in Nacharam on Saturday evening when a man lit a fire near a fuel pump, causing alarm and fear among staff and customers. Quick action using the station’s fire safety equipment prevented the flames from spreading.
Police arrested Chandan Kumar, a 19-year-old, and Arun Kumar, a 33-year-old station employee, for their roles in the dangerous incident. Chandan, who arrived with friends to refuel his scooter, made a reckless joke about lighting a fire at the station. Instead of stopping him, Arun, the worker at the pump, encouraged him by daring him to “try it if he had the guts.”
Ignoring the severe risks, Chandan proceeded to ignite the fire, putting everyone nearby in grave danger. The police swiftly responded, arresting both individuals for their irresponsible behaviour. “They were arrested and have been remanded to judicial custody,” said G Rudvir Kumar, the station house officer of Nacharam. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage has since circulated widely on social media, highlighting the serious consequences of their actions.
