A koala surprised the staff at an Ampol service station in Adelaide Hills by wandering into the store and approaching the front counter. The marsupial decided to mount Nick Smith, one of the attendants, while he was on shift. Although Smith was relieved that the koala did not scratch him in any sensitive areas under his jeans, he and his co-worker eventually managed to coax the animal off.
However, the koala was not done with the encounter yet and spent another 40 minutes wandering around the store until koala rescue arrived to take him away. During an interview with Today, host Karl Stefanovic jokingly asked Smith if he was worried about catching something from the koala and having to explain it to his partner, to which Smith responded that the thought had crossed his mind.
Co-host Sarah Abo expressed shock at Stefanovic’s question but also commented that catching chlamydia during a shift at a service station would be a difficult explanation to give.
